Wonders Extended Day at Concord Hill has been warmly welcomed by the Concord Hill community since 2016! We offer flexible enrollment options including full time, part time and drop in enrollment. Additionally, we will provide before school care starting at 7:00 am at Somerset Elementary School.  A Wonders staff member will walk all Concord Hill School students to Concord Hill before classes start. After school care will be at Concord Hill until 6:30 pm Monday through Friday for children age 3 through Grade 3. We offer full day programs for parent teacher conference dates and other school holidays. Wonders Extended Day programs demonstrate our belief that children learn through play in a supportive and nurturing environment.  Wonders teachers develop meaningful relationships with the children and families in our programs.  Our curriculum components support growth and learning around teamwork, friendship, service learning, health and wellness and environmental stewardship. Time is set aside each day for homework and a healthy snack.

Wonders at Concord Hill Curriculum

The primary goal in our extended day program is to create communities for children and their families that are fun, nurturing and enriching. Children are active learners. Wonders at Concord Hill provides an environment where children can safely grow through self-guided and structured play. In addition to fostering imagination, play challenges children to expand social, emotional and intellectual tools. School age teachers carefully plan the program to balance homework with exercise and promote healthy eating habits.

The before school program is designed as a gentle transition time from home to school. Children have the opportunity to read, finish homework, play board games or create artwork. Outside time and active games are also offered. Before care will be offered at Somerset Elementary School and a Wonders staff will always accompany children to Concord Hill before the start of school at 8:25 am.

Wonders’ after school program curriculum is built around the concepts of friendship and being a good sport. Activities are designed to create opportunities for all children to explore and experience in ways that are meaningful to them. Activities incorporate seven learning areas: language and literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social studies, personal and social development, physical development and the arts. The afternoon is a blend of child initiated and teacher initiated activities including outdoor play, afternoon snack, group time, choice times, homework and reading time.

On days when schools have scheduled early dismissal or are closed, we provide a half or full day program. These longer days give us the opportunity to enhance our programming by planning special events, inviting specialists in to share their expertise or exploring the larger community on field trips.  When possible, on full days we will combine with our program at Wonders Extended Day at Somerset to increase the opportunities for larger group activities and community building.

Wonders believes in programming that offers an array of opportunities and resources to children and families. In addition to our engaging curriculum, a variety of valuable services are included in our monthly tuition, including:

  • field trips
  • full and half day programming when school is closed
  • intramural sports
  • clubs
  • supervised homework time
  • family fun events
  • parent workshops
  • consultation and support from Child Development Consultants, Inc.
  • daily healthy snacks

This inclusive philosophy ensures that enrolled children can fully participate in all activities that are offered.

Wonders at Concord Hill Financial Assistance

Wonders proudly offers a financial assistance  program that annually provides approximately $300,000 in tuition assistance. The Wonders Financial Assistance Fund is fundamental to who we are as a nonprofit organization and our community.

Our programs are funded through tuition and fundraising activities. We recognize that families have many choices in early childhood and school age programming and that child care tuition and fees are a significant portion of a family budget. We ensure the strength of Wonders by prioritizing our goals for quality programming and mindful fiscal management. We are committed to making our programs accessible to qualified families through our Financial Assistance Program and we accept Child Care Subsidy Vouchers from various organizations including Maryland State Department of Education Subsidy Program, the GSA Army Fee Assistance Child Care Subsidy Program, the FEEA Child Care Subsidy Program and the Montgomery Working Parents Assistance Program.
